Why We Use Hemp Heart Oil in All Our Products

Summary
Hemp heart oil is cold pressed from hulled hemp seeds. Its mild taste, natural omega fatty acids, and hemp-based origin make it the carrier oil we use throughout our product line.
Hemp heart oil is a golden, mild-tasting oil cold pressed from hulled hemp seeds. At Western MA Hemp, we use it throughout our product line because it carries fat-soluble hemp compounds, provides naturally occurring omega fatty acids, and lets us keep our formulas rooted entirely in the hemp plant.
Many hemp companies use coconut-derived MCT oil, olive oil, artificial flavors, or other unrelated carrier ingredients. We take a different approach. When the hemp plant already gives us a clean and effective oil from its seeds, we see no reason to replace it.
From the flower to the seed, our products stay True to the Plant.
What Is Hemp Heart Oil?
Hemp hearts are the soft inner portion of hemp seeds. The hard outer hull is removed first, leaving the nutrient-rich center of the seed. Those hulled hemp hearts are then cold pressed to release their natural oil.
Cold pressing uses mechanical pressure instead of chemical solvents or aggressive refining. Because the dark outer hull is not included, the finished hemp heart oil has a naturally golden color and a mild, slightly nutty taste.
Hemp heart oil is:
- Cold pressed from hulled hemp seeds
- Naturally golden rather than dark green
- Mild and slightly nutty
- Rich in omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids
- Entirely derived from the hemp plant
- Free from artificial flavors and unnecessary additives
The hemp flower supplies our full-spectrum extract. The hemp seed supplies our golden carrier oil. Using both allows us to preserve and deliver more of what the plant naturally provides.
Hemp Heart Oil vs. Regular Hemp Seed Oil
Hemp heart oil and regular hemp seed oil come from the same plant, but they are made from different parts of the seed.
| Hemp heart oil | Regular hemp seed oil | |
|---|---|---|
| Part pressed | Hulled inner seed | Usually the whole seed and hull |
| Typical color | Gold or light yellow | Often dark green |
| Typical taste | Mild and nutty | Stronger, grassy, or bitter |
| Use in our products | Clean hemp-based carrier | Not used |

The hull contains chlorophyll and other plant pigments that can make whole-seed oil greener and more strongly flavored. Removing the hull before pressing produces a cleaner-tasting oil without bleaching or heavily refining it.
That difference is especially noticeable in products taken by mouth. Hemp heart oil supports the formula without overpowering the natural terpenes and aromatic compounds in our full-spectrum extract.
What Are the Benefits of Hemp Heart Oil in Our Products?
We do not treat hemp heart oil as an empty filler. It performs several important jobs across our product line.
It carries fat-soluble hemp compounds
Cannabinoids and many other compounds produced by hemp are fat soluble. Hemp heart oil provides a natural lipid base in which our full-spectrum extract can be evenly dispersed.
In products taken orally, that oil also supports the body's uptake of fat-soluble compounds. In tinctures, it creates a smooth liquid that can be measured with a dropper. In capsules, it keeps the extract suspended in a consistent, tasteless serving.

It has a naturally mild taste
Our products should taste like the hemp variety from which they were made—not like bitter seed hulls or added peppermint.
The mild, nutty character of hemp heart oil lets the plant's own earthy, woody, floral, or herbal notes remain present without becoming harsh. It helps us create a better experience without sugar, sweeteners, or artificial flavoring.
It keeps our formulas hemp based
Instead of pairing hemp extract with an oil from coconuts, olives, or another crop, we use an oil from the hemp plant itself.
That choice may seem small, but it reflects our entire approach to formulation: use what the plant naturally provides and leave out what it does not need.
Hemp Heart Oil, Omegas, and the Endocannabinoid System
Hemp heart oil naturally contains omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids in a ratio close to 3:1. This balanced fatty-acid profile is one of the qualities that makes hemp seed oil unique.
These essential fats also have a natural connection to the endocannabinoid system, or ECS.
The body produces its own cannabinoids, called endocannabinoids. These are lipid-based messengers made from fatty-acid building blocks. Omega fatty acids are part of the larger pool of fats the body uses to produce and regulate these internal messengers.
The ECS uses endocannabinoids to communicate throughout the body and help maintain internal balance. Hemp heart oil complements this system in two ways: it carries the hemp plant's fat-soluble compounds, and it supplies naturally occurring fatty acids connected to the body's own endocannabinoid production.
It is another example of how different parts of the hemp plant can work together in one formula.
Why We Use Hemp Heart Oil Instead of MCT Oil
MCT oil is one of the most common carrier oils in CBD products. It is typically derived from coconuts or palm kernels and is popular because it is inexpensive, nearly flavorless, and easy to formulate with.
But MCT oil does not come from hemp.
We formulate our products to remain as closely connected to the hemp plant as possible. Hemp already provides a mild carrier oil with a naturally balanced fatty-acid profile, so we choose to use it.
That keeps hemp at the center of the product rather than treating it as a single ingredient added to an otherwise unrelated formula.
How Hemp Heart Oil Keeps Every Formula True to the Plant
Our True to the Plant philosophy begins long before a product is bottled.
We select hemp genetics for their complete cannabinoid and terpene profiles. We grow our plants organically in Western Massachusetts, harvest them by hand, and use gentle methods to extract the hemp flower without stripping away its natural chemistry.
That same philosophy continues when we create the finished product.
The flower provides the full-spectrum extract. The seed provides the hemp heart oil. Together, they allow us to formulate with more of the plant and fewer unrelated ingredients.
For us, True to the Plant means:
- Preserving the cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and natural oils produced by the flower
- Using hemp heart oil from the inner seed
- Avoiding isolates, distillates, artificial flavors, and unnecessary additives
- Keeping every ingredient purposeful and connected to the plant

Why Our Finished Products Are Not All the Same Color
Hemp heart oil begins with a clear golden appearance, but the color of a finished product also reflects the full-spectrum extract blended into it.
A genuine full-spectrum extract contains the naturally occurring oils, cannabinoids, terpenes, and other compounds preserved from the hemp flower. These compounds deepen the finished color and may create slight differences between harvests.
Natural variation is normal in products made from real crops. A lighter product is not automatically better, and a darker product is not automatically more complete.
What matters is the quality of the plant, how the extract was made, what the laboratory results show, and which ingredients were used in the final formula. Read our guide to identifying a good full-spectrum CBD oil for more ways to evaluate a product.
From Hemp Flower to Hemp Seed
Hemp heart oil is not an afterthought in our products. It is another valuable part of the same plant.
The flower supplies cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and aromatic oils. The seed supplies a golden oil rich in essential fatty acids. Using both lets us create products that remain rooted in hemp from beginning to end.
That is why we use hemp heart oil throughout our formulated product line. It supports the extract, improves the experience, provides naturally occurring omegas, and keeps our products where they belong: True to the Plant.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hemp Heart Oil
Is hemp heart oil the same as CBD oil?
No. Hemp heart oil is pressed from hulled hemp seeds and serves as the carrier oil in our formulas. CBD and other cannabinoids come from the resin-rich hemp flower extract that we blend into it.
Does hemp heart oil contain CBD?
Hemp hearts are not a meaningful source of CBD. The CBD, minor cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids in our products come from our full-spectrum flower extract. Hemp heart oil carries that extract and supplies its own naturally occurring fatty acids.
What does hemp heart oil taste like?
Hemp heart oil has a mild, slightly nutty taste. It is lighter and less bitter than the dark-green oil commonly pressed from whole hemp seeds.
Why is hemp heart oil gold instead of green?
The dark outer hull is removed before the hemp hearts are cold pressed. Because much of the chlorophyll and darker plant material is associated with the hull, oil pressed from the inner seed is naturally lighter and more golden.
Why do you use hemp heart oil instead of coconut MCT oil?
Hemp heart oil allows us to keep our formulated products rooted in one plant. It provides a mild carrier for fat-soluble hemp compounds while supplying a naturally balanced omega-6 to omega-3 fatty-acid profile.
Are products made with hemp heart oil flavored?
No added flavoring is needed. Hemp heart oil is naturally mild, allowing the authentic flavor and aroma of the hemp extract to remain. Our capsules provide a tasteless option for customers who prefer not to taste hemp.
